What Is an F1 Sprint Weekend?

An F1 Sprint is a short race of approximately 100km, usually lasting around 30 minutes, with championship points awarded to the top eight finishers.

In simple terms, it means less practice and more racing. Sprint weekends offer competitive Formula 1 action across all three days, culminating in the main Grand Prix on Sunday.

There will be a record 10 Sprint weekends in 2027, including first-time Sprints in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco and Abu Dhabi.

What Is New for Formula 1 in 2027?

Two familiar circuits make a welcome return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2027.

The Portuguese Grand Prix heads back to the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão from 18–20 June. With its dramatic elevation changes and sweeping layout, it has often been described as a rollercoaster—and not only by the spectators trying to navigate the hills.

The Turkish Grand Prix also returns, with Istanbul Park hosting the race from 1–3 October. The circuit is best known for its demanding multi-apex Turn 8, a corner that looks challenging from the grandstand and considerably more so at Formula 1 speeds.

The other major change is the expansion of the Sprint format from 6 weekends in 2026 to a record 10 in 2027.

Which 2027 Grand Prix Should You Attend?

With 24 destinations to choose from, the right Grand Prix will depend on the type of experience you are looking for. These are three of the standout weekends on the 2027 calendar.

Monaco Grand Prix: 4–6 June 2027

Monaco has never been short of spectacle, but its first Formula 1 Sprint should make the 2027 weekend even more eventful.

Guests can watch the action from a trackside yacht, private balcony, terrace or official hospitality facility. Rocket Hospitality can also arrange accommodation, transfers and evening events—because in Monaco, the racing is only part of the weekend.
